SOLON — December temperatures in the 40s and 50s, even pushing 60 were but a distant memory as a pair of strong winter storms swept across the state last week. The first hit Monday through Tuesday with the National Weather Service office in the Quad Cities reporting 13 inches of heavy wet snow on the ground in Solon as of 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9. Thursday night and through the day on Friday (Jan. 12) a second system brought light, powdery snow, and an additional 4.8 inches (at 12:13 p.m. Friday). Strong winds created blizzard conditions and massive drifting ahead of several days of sub-zero cold.
Due to the road conditions the Solon Community School District cancelled classes leading to an extra break for the students. The Solon Economist reached out to the community to share their best Snow Day pics, and above and on page 12 are some of what we received. The full gallery of all photos received can be found on our website at www.eastcentraliowanews.com/solon/.
