SOLON — West Delaware’s Hawks visited last Thursday (Jan. 11) and sullied Solon’s Senior Night with a 31-28 dual meet win. Seniors Kyler Steapp, Tyson Wheeler, and Lawsin Sinnwell were recognized before the meet for their contributions to the Spartan Wrestling program.
Of particular note, Jordan Schmidt, a junior, notched his 100th win as he took a 6-3 decision from West Delaware’s Jax Miller in the 138-pound match.
“Jordan is proud of 100 wins, I’m sure, but I know he’s got bigger goals than that,” said Coach Aaron Hadenfeldt. “He’s got his sights set on things toward the end of the season and I’m sure he will be able to look back and be proud of his wins.”
Jayden Steapp (106 lbs.) pinned West Delaware’s Lucas Peters (1:03), Charlie Karam (132) pinned WD’s Rylan Gaul (4:27), Sinnwell (144) took a 5-2 decision from Ryan Hilby, Kyler Jensen (190) won in sudden victory over WD’s Jeryn Funke (SV-1, 14-12), Lucas Feuerbach (215) took a 9-2 decision from WD’s Owen Pettlon, and Grant Wilson (285) won an 8-0 major decision against WD’s Wes Devaney.

Coach’s comments
“We are right there,” said Coach Hadenfeldt. “That was a tough one to lose, but it shows our guys that they can go with the top teams in the state. I was pleased with the effort for the most part and stressed to the guys that in tough duals like that, every point matters. Fighting off your back is the difference in a lot of big duals, and that was true for this one. Again, it shows our guys that they can go with the top teams, and I’m not sure all of them believed they could before that dual.”
