IOWA CITY — Three Spartan student athletes – Grant Bumsted, Trendon Walker, and Carson Reid, are competing in winter sports with the Iowa City High Little Hawks this season.

Bumsted, a junior, is a captain on City’s swim team. Their season opened Nov. 28 with a 97-72 win at home (Mercer Park Aquatic Center) over Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Bumsted took fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly in 2:18.43 and 1:10.29. Tuesday, Dec. 5 found the Little Hawks in Cedar Rapids Washington’s pool where they fell 114-56 to the Warriors. Bumsted was second in the butterfly (1:00.92) and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.34). Results were not available from the Dubuque-Iowa City Quad (City High, West High, Dubuque Hempstead, and Dubuque Senior), which was held Saturday.

Reid, a junior, and Walker, a sophomore, are on City’s bowling team. Their season opened Nov. 21 with a 3,103 – 2,905 loss to Cedar Falls. Reid led City High with 432 while Walker bowled 397. The Little Hawks defeated Cedar Rapids Jefferson Dec. 1 3,097-2,833 with Walker winning the varsity boys match with 481. Reid bowled 462. Last Friday Prairie, Cedar Rapids defeated City High 3,229-2,851 with Walker leading City with 412 and Reid bowling 393.
