SOLON — The varsity Lady Spartans moved to the top of Class 3A last week in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU)’s Nov. 30 weekly rankings of the top-15 teams in the state. Solon moved up from No. 2 the week before, after rolling over Iowa City High (non-conference) and Williamsburg.

Solon celebrated senior Mia Stahle’s 18th birthday with a 50-38 non-conference win at home Tuesday, Nov. 28. Anna Quillin put up the first basket of the night as Solon went on to win the first period 10-5 with Delainey Durr snapping a 5-5 tie with a two-point basket. Quillin added seven points in the second period as Solon surged ahead to a 21-7 lead at halftime. Quillin made it 15-7 with a rebound and basket while Callie Levin added two free throws and a basket in the quarter.
The Little Hawks battled back in the third after Hailey Miller opened the half with a three-point basket for a 24-7 lead. City put up a 14-point run punctuated by a three-pointer to cut the lead to 24-21. Levin drained a pair of three-pointers late in the period for a 30-21 advantage. Stahle scored with an assist by Levin making it 32-21 while three-pointers by Miller and Durr made it 38-25. Gable Knight, Jerzey Haluska, Trea Eidahl, Laney Johnson, and Laeni Hinkle saw playing time at the end with Solon up 50-31.
Levin led all with 22 points followed by Quillin’s 13, six from Miller, five by Durr, and four points produced by Stahle. Quillin led on the boards with 13 rebounds, Levin made four assists and five steals while Miller and Levin had one block each.

The Lady Spartans took a 19-11 lead at the end of the first period and were up 35-20 at halftime. A 20-point effort in the third build their advantage to 55-34 at the end of the third.
Miller led all with 30 points including five three-pointers while Levin produced 25 points. Stahle had a four-point night with three points each from Kobi Lietz and Haluska while Quillin, Durr, and Maddyn Gates put up two points apiece. Quillin again made 13 rebounds with six assists and four steals by Levin.
