SOLON — In 1978 superstars John Travolta and Olivia Newton John brought the story of Danny and Sandy, two young lovers with opposite backgrounds, to the big screen in Grease. This past weekend, Solon High School’s fine arts department brought the story to the stage in the Center for the Arts.
Director Sami McAtee said the show was the best fit for the kids, their talent, and the number of students available.
“We wanted a timely show that people would know and be familiar with. We see it as a ‘sing-along’ type of show (several of the show’s main musical numbers have been a staple on radio for decades). The music is fun, the show is fun, the choreography is great, so that was a big point for us.”
Jackson Messenger and Mia Stahle took on the lead roles of Danny and Sandy with Brady Evers (Kenickie), Meg Düster (Rizzo), Ben Duckett (Roger), Reagan Seaton (Jan), Zander Bishop (Doody), Grace Ivey (Frenchy), Daniel Tearse (Sonny LaTierri/Teen Angel), Sabina Allen (Marty), Callie Levin (Patty Simcox), Joshua Milliman (Eugene Florczyk), Kardyn Huynh (Johnny Casino), Isabella Miller (Miss Lynch), Kassie Rummel (Cha-Cha DiGregorio), Parker Beck (Vince Fontaine), and Natalie Arther and Ace Mulford (Johnny Casino Band).
