Have you ever wondered about Iowans who are struggling with homelessness? Have you wanted to assist those in need in our area? Come to St. John the Baptist Catholic church Sunday, October 22 at 1:00 p.m. in Mount Vernon to learn about the work of the Willis Dady Homeless Services non-profit located in Cedar Rapids.
Willis Dady Homeless Service’s mission is to empower all experiencing homelessness to build futures of self-sufficiency through advocacy, housing and employment. It is their mission to have a community where everyone has housing, stability and opportunity.
There are approximately 175 individuals who are unhoused and need support in Cedar Rapids. Willis Dady provides education, employment support, shelter, veteran services, a day center, street outreach and more.
Aaron Amundson, Development Director supervises the Development team and Willis Dady Programs through public relations and donor development. He will be sharing details about the specific services provided by Willis Dady as well as how we can assist those in need. St. John’s plans to collect much needed items for their mission during the month of January 2024.
The social justice committee at St. John’s is coordinating this event. Solidarity, one of the seven Catholic Social Teachings is the focus of this project. Solidarity means we are attentive to the needs of others and this awareness leads to action.
This featured speaker program is open to the public. It is our hope that we come together to learn about this national crisis and assist those nearby.
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church is located at 212 7th St SE Mount Vernon, IA 52314. The event will be in the lower level. There will be kolaches and drinks to enjoy.
