CEDAR FALLS — Cedar Falls’ Tigers soaked the City High Little Hawks 134-52 in varsity swimming Tuesday, October 3.
Solon’s Grace Hoeper (junior), Tatum Holtkamp (senior), Claire Leone (senior), Avery Mann (senior), Ella Vernon (senior), Madelyn Elkins (freshman), Taryn Anderson (senior), and Paige Anderson (sophomore) are swimming for the Little Hawks this season.
Hoeper won the 100-yard butterfly in 57.04 seconds and the 200-yard individual medley (IM) in 2:11.94, Mann was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:56.07) and fifth in the 200 IM (2:35.30). Elkins took sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.68), Vernon was eighth in the 200-freestyle (2:25.28), and Leone was 11th in both the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard fly (1:40.70 and 1:40.04).
As the season nears the end Hoeper is ranked No. 1 in the state in the 50-freestyle (23.37) and 100-fly (56.82). She is also No. 2 in the 100-freestyle (50.73), 200 freestyle (1:53.09), and 500-freestyle (5:06.33), and No. 4 in the 200 IM (2:09.21).
Upcoming events
The Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) varsity diving meet is Thursday, October 19 at Dubuque Hempstead starting at 5:00 p.m. with the MVC varsity swimming meet set for Saturday, October 21 at Hempstead starting at noon.
Regional (state qualifying) diving meets will be held Thursday, Nov. 2 with Regional swimming meets held Saturday, Nov. 4 ahead of the State Swimming and Diving Meet Friday, Nov. 10 and Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA.
