SOLON — The varsity Lady Spartans fell 3-1 to the West Delaware Hawks Tuesday, Sept. 26 at home.
Solon forced extra play in the first set but fell 28-26 and dropped the second set 25-19 before winning the third set 25-20. The Hawks took the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth set.
Individual stats had not been posted by deadline; however, freshman libero Kennedey Whitford made her 500th career dig.
Solon drops two spots
in IGHSAU rankings
The Lady Spartans dropped two spots in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s (IGHSAU) weekly rankings for Thursday, Sept. 28. Solon went from No. 8 in Class 3A to No. 11. Western Christian retained the No. 1 spot with Mount Vernon holding onto their No. 2 spot. Center Point-Urbana moved up from No. 10 to No. 9, West Delaware moved up from No. 11 to No. 10, Wahlert Catholic remained at No. 12, and Anamosa stayed at No. 13.
Upcoming events
Center Point-Urbana’s tournament is Saturday, October 7 starting at 8:30 a.m. The WaMaC Tournament is set for Thursday, October 12 at Marion High School starting at 4:00 p.m. ahead of postseason play, which begins Tuesday, October 17, continues Thursday, October 19, and ends with the Regional Final Tuesday, October 24 with a trip to State on the line.
