SOLON — Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 7 to elect the mayor, two city council members, and two members of the school board.
The deadline for candidates to file with the Johnson County Auditor’s Office was Thursday, Sept. 21 at 5:00 p.m. The candidate list became official after the Tuesday, Sept. 26 deadline for challenging a candidate’s validity or a candidate withdrawing from the election.
Councilman Dan O’Neil is challenging incumbent Steve Stange for Mayor. O’Neil was elected to the Council in 2019 and his term expires Dec. 31. Stange, who was elected to the Council in 2006, was appointed by the Council as Mayor in May 2014 and was elected in November 2014. Stange was reelected in 2015 and 2019 with his term also set to expire in December.
Councilman John Farlinger is running for reelection. Farlinger was elected in 2019 with his term set to expire in December. Farlinger was appointed Mayor Pro Tem in April 2022. Andrew Kramer is running for the seat O’Neil will be vacating.
Two incumbents, Adam Haluska and Jami Wolf, are running unopposed in their bids to retain their seats on the Solon Community School District Board of Directors.
The Solon Economist will be sending questionnaires to all of the candidates with their responses printed in the paper in the weeks leading up to the election.

Wednesday, October 18 is the first day in-person early voting is allowed under state law, and the first day mailed absentee ballots can be sent.
Monday, October 23 is the voter pre-registration deadline. According to the Auditor’s Office if you need to register in Johnson County or update your address after this date, you will need to follow the Election Day Registration procedure (available on the Auditor’s website) in order to vote in this election.
Monday, October 23 is also the deadline to request a mailed absentee ballot. The request form MUST be in the Auditor’s Office by 5:00 p.m. on that date. In-person early voting will still be available after this date.
Monday, Nov. 6 is the last day of in-person early voting.
Tuesday, Nov. 7 is the election with polls open 7:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Voters must vote at their assigned polling place. An interactive map is available on the Auditor’s website. Also, mailed absentee ballots must be received by the Auditor’s Office before the polls close at 8:00 p.m.
