SOLON — The Solon Community School District Board of Directors has accepted a bid for the Solon Intermediate School (SIS) expansion project.
The Board took action during their Thursday, Sept. 21 regular meeting after receiving nine bids for the project, one of several voters approved in a $25.5 million bond referendum earlier this year. Ed Larson Construction Co., Inc. from Independence submitted the low bid of $7,230,000, which came in roughly $1.5 million lower than expected.
The project, scheduled to begin next spring, will add seven general education classrooms, one special education room (with additional dedicated space), one project-based learning room, and a second gym. This additional wing was initially included in the original plans when the school was built in 2017 as an “alternate” (optional), which means design work has already been completed, expediting the project.
Approval of the bid passed unanimously.
