DUBUQUE — Iowa City High’s Little Hawks split with Wahlert Catholic’s (Dubuque) Golden Eagles Tuesday, Sept. 19 in a dual meet at Loras College as the junior varsity (JV) won 136-14 but the varsity fell 99-81.
Solon’s Hoeper, Holtkamp, and Leone post individual wins
Grace Hoeper won the varsity 100-yard fly and 100-yard backstroke in 57.67 and 1:01.60, Tatum Holtkamp took the JV 50-yard freestyle in 29.52 and was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:24.80). Claire Leone won the JV 100-yard fly in 1:34.46 and was second in the JV 100-yard breaststroke (1:37.90), Avery Mann took second in the 500-yard freestyle (6:03.69) and was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:17.29). Ella Vernon finished third in the JV 100-yard freestyle (1:09.50) and fifth in the varsity 200-yard freestyle (2:24.83), Madelyn Elkins was fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (IM) (2:46.07) while Taryn Anderson garnered 33.50 points in the JV 1-meter diving competition.

City’s varsity and JV 400-yard freestyle relays and the JV 200-yard freestyle relay posted wins.
Hoeper anchored the varsity 400 with City’s Elsa Farber, Margalit Frank, and Saoirse Miller (3:58.30), Holtkamp anchored the JV 400 with City’s Celeste Miller, Miriam Doval, and Mabel Wittenkeller (4:39.45), and Vernon closed out the JV 200 with City’s Elsie Gavin, Adeliade Newton, and Lolita Hurlbutt (2:05.69).
Holtkamp, Mann, and Elkins were joined by City’s Ellie Galloway for the second-place varsity 200-yard medley relay (2:10.84) and Vernon joined Kalea Seaton, Riley Polfliet, and Vidya Kumar for the second place 200-yard freestyle relay (1:46.53). Elkins, Seaton, Kate Bird, and Mann were third in the varsity 400 freestyle (4:15.46). Vernon anchored the fourth-place varsity 200 medley with Seaton, Polfliet, and Kumar (2:16.20) and Leone anchored the fourth place JV 200 freestyle with City’s Ily Jensen, Malorie James, and Larkin Brown (2:38.60).

City High travels to Holmes Jr. High (505 Holmes Drive) in Cedar Falls Tuesday, October 3 to take on Cedar Falls High School in a 6:00 p.m. dual meet and visits Dubuque Hempstead Thursday, October 19 for the Mississippi Valley Conference diving meet at 5:00 p.m. The MVC swimming tournament is Saturday, October 21 at Hempstead, starting at Noon.
