Iowa Veterans Outdoor Experience (IVOE) is hosting a 2.2 ruck march through Solon Saturday, Sept. 23.
The march is to raise awareness of veteran suicide, which is estimated at 22 per day, as well as to raise money IVOE uses to provide outings for veterans.
IVOE sponsors various hunting and fishing trips as well as events specifically for female veterans, with 100% of the costs paid for by the organization.
The march, with optional 22-pound ruck (backpack) or weighted vest, leaves the Solon American Legion Stinocher Post 460 at 10:00 a.m. with a cost of $22 per participant.
“It’s for anyone who wants to try a two-mile walk and any walkers or runners who want a challenge,” said Doug “Doc” Thompson, a member of Post 460 and volunteer with IVOE. “We’ll set a pace most can handle.”
