SOLON — Archrival Mount Vernon swept the Lady Spartans 3-0 Tuesday, Sept. 5 in Solon. The Mustangs took the first and second sets 25-19. Solon rallied in the third set and threatened to force a fourth but fell 25-23.
Yasmine Sell led Solon’s offense with 13 kills, Grace Erwin produced seven kills, Jozie Lahr and Aly Stahle made four apiece with one each from Brynn Deike and Addie Miller.
Lahr made a team high six solo blocks with four from Erwin, three by Miller, two from Sell, and one apiece by Deike and Stahle. Deike, Lahr, and Miller made one ace serve each.
Solon goes 2-0 at Vinton-Shellsburg’s quad
The Lady Spartans competed in Vinton-Shellsburg’s quad Thursday, Sept. 7 with a 2-1 win over the Vikettes (19-25, 25-14, 15-12) and 2-0 win against the Oelwein Huskies (25-19, 25-17).
Yasmine Sell made a team high dozen kills against the Vikettes with eleven from Jozie Lahr, five by Grace Erwin, and two each by Addie Miller and Gable Knight with one from Brynn Deike. Erwin had five solo blocks, Deike and Sell made two with one apiece by Lahr, Miller, and Knight. Miller had three ace serves.
Sell matched her jersey number with nine kills against Oelwein, Lahr made five, and Deike, Erwin, and Miller had two each. Deike and Lahr made one solo block each with four ace serves by Miller. Sell had a pair of aces with one each from Deike, Kennedey Whitford, and Lahr.
Lady Spartans compete in Linn-Mar’s tourney
Solon defeated North Tama 2-0 (21-10, 23-21) before falling 0-2 (14-21, 21-23) to Dubuque Hempstead and 0-2 (11-21, 21-23) to Pleasant Valley.

Clinton High School hosts Solon, Dubuque Senior, Wahlert Catholic, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Wilton, Davenport Central Camanche, Assumption Catholic, Prince of Peace Catholic, and Central DeWitt Saturday, Sept. 16 for an invitational tournament starting at 8:30 a.m.
The Lady Spartans visit the Marion Wolves Tuesday, Sept. 19 with freshmen and sophomores starting at 5:00 p.m., JV at 6:00 p.m., and varsity at 7:30 p.m.
