September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month! The campaign started in 1987 as a response to then Secretary of Education William Bennett, who stated, “Let’s have a campaign … Every child should obtain a library card and use it.” Celebrate with us by signing up for a Library card, renewing your current card, and with a visit to the Library. “Having fun isn’t hard, when you’ve got a Library card!” — Marc Brown.
As a special way to celebrate we have a drawing for all patrons who sign up for a library card, renew their card, or use their card during the month of September. One lucky winner will receive a S’mores Gift Set.
Library Events
Everyone is invited to our monthly Family Storytime! Join us Saturday, September 9 at 10:30 a.m. for songs, books, and games that you can enjoy together.
Saturday, September 9 will be the last outdoor Fun For All Night of the season. Our friends at the Recreation Dept. will have fun games set up at 6:30 p.m., enjoy some outdoor playtime with stomp rockets, sidewalk chalk, giant Jenga, and more! We’ll then show the movie Ferdinand [PG] at 7:30 p.m. on our giant inflatable movie screen with state-of-the-art projector and sound system. Bring a lawn chair, enjoy some fresh popcorn and the movie.
This month’s DIY Night participants are making a crayon wreath Tuesday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. These back-to-school themed wreaths are perfect for brightening up your door or to give as teacher gifts. Space is limited, register online or at the Library to save your spot!
Cookbook Club is all about pastries in September! Pastries are small buns made using a stiff dough enriched with fat. Some dishes, such as pies, are made of a pastry casing that covers or completely contains a filling of various sweet or savory ingredients. Check out a pastry cookbook, try a recipe or two, and bring it to share on Saturday, September 16 at 11:00 a.m.
The Solon Book Club is reading The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. This staff favorite is sure to be a great discussion, as it is an enchanting love story, masterfully told, about the profound experience of discovering an unlikely family in an unexpected place – and realizing that family is yours. Pick up a copy of the book and join us at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19th to discuss.
Don’t get frustrated with technology, let us help! We’re holding Tech Talk on Thursday, September 21 at 9:30 a.m. and featuring the Libby App. We’ll explain how Libby works, help you set up your Library account, and get you started with borrowing eBooks, eAudio, magazines, and more!
