After reading the Thursday, August 3, 2023, edition of the Solon Economist my first thought was: ”This is a community newspaper at its best!” I felt like I was at Beef Days events and I loved reading all of the winners of the Johnson County Fair shows! The City of Solon update Cami Rasmussen gives monthly at Senior Dining answered my questions about the hardware store and the water main projects.
Now that I am a “senior” I don’t get out as much and I rely on the Solon Economist to get my news about the City of Solon, the Solon Public Library, the Senior Advocates and other Solon activities. Being a retired educator, I always want to be informed re: the Solon Community Schools — be it board meetings, classroom projects, and extra-curricular activities. (Many thanks to the sponsors of the “Solon Fall 2023 Schedule” for sports in the Thursday, August 17, 2023, issue!)
I also enjoy the “Opinion” page regular columnists — ”Food for Thought” by Milli Gilbaugh and “Stray Thoughts” by Randy Evans. The “Opinion” page regularly has reports from elected officials which provides information for the public. And I always read the Letters to the Editor because I’m always interested in what others are thinking.
You can now get the timely coverage of each issue of the Solon Economist via e-edition but I’m still “old school” and look forward to my print copy each week. I love saving pertinent articles to give to friends — e.g. obituaries/ celebrations/ honors etc. I also love the ads as I learn about area services and I appreciate the local support for Solon’s own “little miracle” weekly newspaper.
Keep up the good work!
