DES MOINES — Solon 8th graders were in the spotlight last Friday (August 25) as they performed the National Anthem ahead of the Savannah Bananas playing their friendly rivals, the Party Animals, in a game of “Banana Ball” at Principal Park in Des Moines.
Jessie Frerich, former 8th grade choir director, contacted the Bananas’ public relations, sending them a video of the choir singing, and were selected for game one of a two-day appearance. Frerich and current director Courtney Deutmeyer led the choir in the pregame tradition.
The Bananas and Party Animals bring comedy to their unique take on baseball with props, skits, and dance routines.
The Bananas and Party Animals split the two-day doubleheader with the Bananas winning 2-1 Friday and falling 3-1 Saturday.
