SOLON — Week Zero of the 2023 Iowa high school football season found many teams testing their preseason progress in scrimmage games, and the Spartans were no exception as they hosted the Monticello Panthers for freshman, junior varsity (JV), and varsity scrimmage games last Friday. Scores were not kept nor were any stats in the contests, which saw the teams alternating between 20 minutes of offense and 20 minutes of defense.
Week One, the official start of the nine-week season is this Friday with the frosh-soph and varsity squads traveling to Assumption Catholic High School in Davenport. The frosh-soph game will start at 5:00 p.m. with varsity following at 7:30 p.m. (editor’s note, high heat indexes may affect these games).
The JV squad will host Assumption Monday, August 28 at 6:00 p.m. and travel to Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Thursday, August 31 with a 6:00 p.m. start.
CCA’s Clippers will sail into Spartan Stadium Friday, Sept. 1 for a 5:00 frosh-soph game and 7:30 p.m. varsity start.
