The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) released their preseason rankings for the 2023 varsity volleyball season Monday, August 21 for all five classes.
The Solon Lady Spartans (26-13 last year) start the season Tuesday, August 29 with a home quad (with Clear Creek Amana, West Branch, and West Liberty) ranked ninth in Class 3A. Des Moines Christian (46-6 last year) is ranked No. 1. The Lions were knocked out of the 2022 State Tournament 3-1 by Sioux Center (unranked this season) in the 3A semifinals. Assumption Catholic, the 2022 3A Champion, is ranked third with a 33-7 record last year.
Rival Mount Vernon, who were defeated by Assumption in the 3A semifinals last year, hold the No.6 spot with a 35-6 record.
