Eight Solon High School student athletes will compete on the Iowa City High School girls swimming and diving team as seniors Taryn Anderson, Tatum Holtkamp, Claire Leone, Avery Mann, and Ella Vernon, with junior Grace Hoeper, sophomore Paige Anderson, and freshman Madelyn Elkins don Little Hawk red.
Hoeper and Mann were state qualifiers with Hoeper winning the 50-yard freestyle in 23.34 seconds, bettering her preliminaries time of 23.54 seconds the day before, and her qualifying time of 23.72. She was also third in the 100-yard butterfly in 55.94 seconds, improving on her preliminaries time of 56.21 seconds. City High’s Ellie Galloway, Saoirse Miller, Margalit Frank, and Hoeper were 24th in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:55.28 while Miller, Frank, fellow Solonite Avery Mann, and Hoeper were 23rd in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:48.42.
Hoeper earned Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division 1st Team honors for the 50-freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, and Honorable Mention with Miller, Frank, and City’s Elsa Farber for the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The season opened Tuesday, August 22 at Cedar Rapids Kennedy. City High’s first home meet is set for Tuesday, Sept. 5 as Dubuque Senior visits.
