SOLON — A night of music will fill the air of the Solon Recreation and Nature Area (SRNA) as Bands for the Bird House happens Saturday, August 19 at the Timber Dome.
The family friendly event is open to the public with free will donations accepted at the gate and burgers, brats, hot dogs, chips, and popcorn with beer, seltzers, and water available for purchase at the concession stand.
This will be the third year for the event, hosted by the nonprofit group Birdies for the Bird House, Inc. benefiting the Bird House Hospice House in Iowa City. The group was formed by Dan O’Neil in memory of his mother, Teresa ‘Hanrahan’ O’Neil.
“The Bird House was home to Teresa in her final days after a long off-and-on battle with breast cancer,” said O’Neil. “Our family was extremely impressed with the passionate care and hospitality that came during her brief stay. As a token of our appreciation, and to help future families, we began fundraising in 2017 through golf events and added music fundraisers in 2020.” Since the first golf outing, Birdies for the Bird House has raised over $60,000 for The Bird House.
Dogs on Skis open the event from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with Well Strung taking the stage from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The evening will close with dueling pianos by Howl2Go from 8:00-10:00 p.m.
