SOLON — Six varsity Spartans were recently named to the WaMaC Conference’s East Division All Conference Boys Soccer teams for 2022-2023.
First Team picks were Keegan Conway and Josiah Hale.
Conway, a sophomore, produced seven goals and two assists with 29 shots on goal and 53 shots total. He scored one penalty kick (PK) and started all 15 games through the first round of District competition.
Hale, a junior, made two goals, had no assists, made four shots on goal with a dozen shots in total, and was a starter in 14 out of 15 games played.
Second team honors went to Lewis Sutton and Eli Freerks.
Sutton, a senior, scored one goal and made four assists with ten shots on goal (15 shots total). He was a starter in all 15 games.
Freerks, a junior, led the Spartans with 15 goals and four assists with 38 shots on goal and 62 shots total. He was a starter in 13 of the 15 games this season.
The WaMaC Recognition award was presented to Nate Shafer and Zander Stookey.
Shafer, a senior, scored two goals and made two assists. He had seven shots on goal and 14 shots total and started all 15 games.
Stookey, a sophomore, was Solon’s keeper this season with 73 saves and 39 goals allowed in 480 minutes of play.
The Spartans finished the season at 2-7 in the WaMaC East and 6-10 overall. A 2-1 Class 2A-5 First Round win at home against Mount Pleasant led to an 8-0 Second Round loss to Assumption Catholic (Davenport).
