SOLON — The varsity boys won their Class 2A Substate 5 first round match 2-1 over Mount Pleasant Monday, May 15 at home.
Keegan Conway and Eli Freerks scored in the contest with seven saves credited to keeper Zander Stookey. The win improved Solon’s record to 6-9 overall while ending the Panthers’ season at 4-10, and advanced the Spartans to a Monday, May 22 semifinal against 13-1 Assumption Catholic (Davenport) on the Knights’ pitch. The winner will advance to the Substate Final Wednesday, May 24 at Assumption.
In the bottom half of the 2A-5 bracket, Burlington Notre Dame defeated Keokuk 1-0 and faced 7-7 Central DeWitt in the semis.
The 2023 State Tournament will be Tuesday, May 30, Thursday, June 1, and Saturday, June 3 at the Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines.
