JOHNSON COUNTY — The Johnson County Secondary Roads Department is seeking groups interested in cleaning up roadsides in Johnson County. Volunteer groups can adopt a specific section of a County road to help reduce litter along the road, enhance the environmental quality and beauty of our roadsides, and help to build community support for anti-litter and Iowa beautification programs.
Groups and individuals are encouraged to participate in the Adopt-A-Roadway program. Other activities possible, besides litter removal include participation in wildflower and prairie grass plantings, assisting with improvement of native prairie sites, hand weeding of sensitive areas to improve environmental quality, and landscaping and gateway projects. Many areas around the County are available for adoption. Groups receive all materials for litter cleanups such as signs, vests, bags, etc.
Interested groups or individuals should contact: Chris Henze, Roadside Vegetation Manager, 4810 Melrose Ave. West, Iowa City, IA 52246, 319-356-6046.
