HAVERHILL — Matthew Edel established a blacksmith shop in Haverhill, located in Marshall County (near Marshalltown) in the 1880s and operated it until his death in 1940. In 1986, descendants of Edel donated the shop and it’s contents, relatively untouched since his death, to the State Historical Society of Iowa. Today, the Historical Society of Marshall County manages the site.
Starting Memorial Day (Monday, May 29) and running through Labor Day, the historic shop is open to the public from Noon-4:00 p.m. Sunday through Saturday at 214 1st Street in Haverhill.
Local resident Pak Ikan, a descendant of Edel, notes a Docent/Tour Guide is needed 1-3 days per week from Noon-4:00 p.m. with a need for flexibility in this part time position.
