INDEPENDENCE — Solon’s varsity girls traveled to the Three Elms Golf Course in Independence Monday, May 1 for the 2023 WaMaC East Divisional Meet and despite gusty winds and tough competitors, won the Division title.
The Lady Spartans led the way with 183 followed by West Delaware (183), Independence (213), and Marion (230).
“The windy conditions made it very tough to score but we had four golfers in the 40’s on our way to the title,” said Coach Curtis Hendrickson.
West Delaware’s Susie Funke medaled with 43 while Solon’s Sydney Dee was the runner up with 44 followed by Rylie Greazel (3rd, 44), Taylor Dee (5th, 47), Izzy Frees (tied for 6th with Megan Maki from Indee, 48), Lilly Houtakker (four-way tie for 9th, 51), and Peyton Pentico (tied for 19th with Aalysah Meek from Indee, 60).
“This is the first WaMaC East Title for the Lady Spartans in at least ten years,” Hendrickson added. “We play in the Tipton Invite this Friday and follow that with the WaMaC Supermeet at Wildcat Golf Course on May 8.”
