SOLON — The Solon Beef Days Committee recently awarded two more grants to local groups.
Treasurer Don C. Ellis presented $3,000 to Sandy Hanson, representing the Solon Senior Advocates, for senior field trips outside of the community. The group typically rents a bus for visits to destinations such as the east coast of Iowa and Circa 21 Dinner Playhouse in Rock Island with the cost per person dependent on the number of participants. Information about upcoming trips is published in the monthly Senior Advocates newsletter and in the Solon Economist.
Ellis also presented a $500 check to varsity boys soccer coach Eyasu Russell for the purchase of training goals for the soccer program.
Solon Beef Days, an annual two-day tradition since 1971, is a major fundraiser for local nonprofit organizations with the Solon Beef Days Committee receiving and acting on funding requests.
