SOLON — The 2023 season opened on a sour note for the varsity boys with a pair of losses to Regina Catholic and Independence.
Regina Catholic 3, Solon 0
The Regals handed the Spartans a season opening loss Tuesday, March 28 avenging a 4-0 loss to Solon last year. No stats were available as of deadline.
Independence 4, Solon 3
Indee’s Tyler Nolan scored in the sixth minute for a 1-0 Independence lead. Eli Freerks equalized in the 14th minute and Tucker Spence gave Solon a 2-1 advantage as he headed the ball into the net in the 18th minute. Noah Timm tied the match 2-2 in the 28th minute and struck again in the 31st minute for a 3-2 Mustang lead. Camden Seehase made it 4-2 for the Mustangs in the 63rd minute while Freerks scored his second goal in the 66th minute cutting the gap to 4-3.
The loss dropped Solon to 0-2.
