Lois Steen
Lois Donna Steen, 97, of Solon and formerly of Oskaloosa, passed away peacefully with family at her bedside Sunday March 26, 2023 at the Solon Care Center.
Funeral services were held at the Tracy Methodist Church in Tracy, Thursday March 30 at 2 p.m. Visitation was held an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Bellefountaine Cemetery in Tracy.
Lois was born July 7, 1925 in Albia, to Charles Sinclair and Irma Dougall. She was the sixth of ten children and attended school in Pleasantville. She married Dwight Steen Nov. 5, 1941 and had two children Sharon Brogan and Bob Steen. Dwight passed away in October of 1997.
She will be remembered and loved by her daughter Sharon, husband Bob Brogan; son Bob, wife Linda Steen; grandchildren David and Sarah, Ryan and Angie, Melissa and Alison; step grandchildren Deb Owens and Dave, Sue Mellecker and Tom, and Barbara Messer; great grandchildren Maddy, Ashlyn, and Carly Steen, Sully Steen, Brady and Katie Vitosh, Chris and Heather Mellecker, Jamie and Melissa Owens, and Brogan and Brianne Messer; plus seven great-great grandchildren; sister Gerrie; and many nieces and nephews. She had a special friend who spent many hours with her and is much loved, Penny Atkinson.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband Dwight, grandson Jeff Brogan, brothers Ralph, Adrian, Max, Johnny and Ronald, sisters Verbal, Ruth, and Ruby.
Lois was a member of Tracy Methodist Church, Our Lords Church in Solon, and a lifetime member and Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. Dwight and Lois were very active in Mahaska Co. 4-H where they farmed for over 50 years.
