SOLON — The Spartan Alpha Club, the first ever Junior Optimist Club in Solon for 4th and 5th graders is new to the Solon Intermediate School this year and has completed its first service project – the Souper Bowl for Caring.
53 members, led by Sami McAtee with Denny Gruber, John McFarland, and Karen McFarland, worked to raise money and collect non-perishable food items for the Solon Food Pantry, which is experiencing a high demand. The drive started Jan. 16 and concluded Friday, Feb. 3 with over 800 pounds (1,120 items) and over $200 raised and donated.
The students were able to visit the Pantry with the help of Sandy Hanson to see first-hand the impact of their donation and how the Pantry serves the community.
