NEW SHARON — The varsity boys won the North Mahaska Wrestling Invitational Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7 and 8. The Spartans topped the 14-team field with 211.5 points, one champion, and four second place finishers.
Jordan Schmidt (6-3) won at 132 pounds after a first round bye, pinning Baxter’s Koltin Hurd (5-6) in 1:54 in the quarterfinals, pinning North Tama’s Gavin Rausch (15-7) in 1:15 in the semifinals, and pinning Grinnell’s Matthew Mintle (15-10) in 3:35 in the championship match.
Teague Williams (14-12), Jackson Feuerbach (4-11), Braydon Hoffman (15-9), and Grant Wilson (10-6) were runner-up’s at 145, 160, 195, and 220. Hoffman won an 11-0 major decision over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont’s Stryker Lettington in the semifinals.
Hunter Campion (3-7) was third at 106, Lawsin Sinnwell (18-8) and Kyler Jensen (13-12) were fourth at 126 and 170, Kyler Jessup (10-9), Charlie Karam (12-14), and Oliver Owens (7-8) were fifth at 120, 138, and 182, and Evan Burg (9-13) and David Karam (12-14) were sixth at 113 and 152. Joe Ebert (8-15) did not place at 285.
