FORT MADISON — The varsity Spartans competed in Fort Madison’s wrestling invitational Friday and Saturday, Dec. 16 and 17 and placed tenth out of a 23-team field.
Dubuque Hempstead took the championship with 380.5 team points while the host Bloodhounds were the runner up team (342.0). Prairie City-Monroe was third (334.0), rival Clear Creek Amana (CCA) took fourth (277.0), and Cedar Rapids Kennedy was fifth (262.0). Rounding out the top-ten Notre Dame, Burlington was sixth (255.5), Columbus Community-WMU was seventh (246.5), Washington (Iowa) took eighth (220.5), and Burlington was ninth (207.0)
Lawsin Sinnwell (13-5) was Solon’s highest-placing man with a fourth place finish at 132 pounds. Sinnwell went 5-2 with two byes in nine matches including a 9-2 decision over Kennedy’s Jake Oostendorp in round 1, pinning Ottumwa’s Jonathan Wailes in 1:17 in the third round, and winning a 15-11 decision over Burlington’s Adrian Perez-Hall in the fifth round. Sinnwell pinned CCA’s Nolan Howell in 2:53 in the quarterfinals but lost a 12-8 decision to Howell in the 3rd place match.
Evan Burg (8-9) and Kyler Jensen (9-9) placed seventh at 113 and 182 pounds respectively, Charlie Karam (8-11) and Joe Ebert (7-12) placed eighth at 138 and 285 pounds, and Teague Williams (11-8), David Karam (9-9), and Zeb Kleinsmith (3-2) placed ninth at 145, 152, and 195.
Braydon Hoffman (11-7) was tenth at 220, Fischer Harrison (9-12) was 13th at 160, and Jayden Steapp (2-9) finished 16th at 106.
