WILTON — The Lady Spartans took runner-up at Wilton’s Women’s Wrestling Tournament Saturday, Dec. 17 with 141.0 team points behind WaMaC East rival Mount Vernon. The Lady Mustangs won the tournament with 196.0 team points. Mid-Prairie (139.0), Clinton (131.0), Cascade (87.0), Louisa-Muscatine (78.0), Davenport (72.0), the host Beavers (71.5), Mt. Pleasant (62.0), West Branch (39.0), Wapello (34.0), Durant (31.0), Fairfield (28.0), Muscatine (25.0), and English Valleys (18.0) rounded out the field.
McKenna Rogers and Addison Burden won at 105 and 145 pounds respectively. Rogers (19-1) pinned Tipton’s Bella Dallege in 2:17 in the quarterfinals, won a 15-2 decision over Mt. Pleasant’s Ella McNamee in the semis, and pinned Durant’s Lainey Shelangoski in 2:13 in the 1st place match. Burden (15-8) won a 9-0 major decision over Mt. Vernon’s Kaylee Kintzel in the first round, pinned Davenport’s Greta Brus in 3:34 in round two, and won by injury default over Cascade’s Ella Madsen in the third round.
Kate Richards (16-7) took 2nd place at 115 pounds after pinning Clinton’s Emily Johnson in 1:12 in the quarterfinals, pinning Louisa-Muscatine’s Aly Ziegenhorn in 48 seconds in the semis, and coming out on the wrong end of an 8-2 decision to Mt. Vernon’s Kiersten Swart in the 1st place match.
Alannah Mahoney (8-11) and Olivia Bonnema (13-9) took third at 125 (B) and 135 (A) respectively. Bonnema pinned Louisa-Muscatine’s Brenna Schutterle in 29 seconds in the quarterfinals and pinned teammate Alexis Anderson in the 3rd place match.
Eleanor Gnida (4-10) and Alexis Anderson (6-16) placed fourth at 130 (B) and 135 (A), Kara VeDepo (11-5), Audreyanna Gerdes (2-1), Audrey Howell (4-5), Kendall Jensen (9-12), and Adlie Miller (3-17) finished the day in fifth at 105, 135 (A), 155, 170 (A), and 235. Miller pinned Louisa-Muscatine’s Molly Bramble in 37 seconds in the 5th place match. Mikayla Langenberg did not place.
