SOLON — The varsity Lady Spartans suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday, Dec. 13 at WaMaC West rival Clear Creek Amana (CCA) as the Clippers sank Solon 75-57. CCA won the first period 21-12 and held a 38-29 halftime lead. Solon was held to just nine points in the third to CCA’s 18 to trail 56-38. The Lady Spartans rallied back with 19 points in the final eight minutes, but the Clippers also put up 19 for the win.
Kobi Lietz led Solon with 16 points including four three-pointers, and Callie Levin produced 15 points, and Mia Stahle had ten. Other scorers included Hailey Miller (six), Anna Quillin (four), and Sara Holtz and Kerrigan Lyons (three apiece). Levin led on the boards with nine rebounds, Stahle made four assists with three each by Levin and Miller.
The No.6-ranked (in Class 3A) Lady Spartans rebounded nicely with a 50-38 home win Friday, Dec. 16 over the No. 15-ranked (Class 4A) Marion Wolves. The Wolves opened with a 4-0 lead before Solon took a 10-9 lead to win the first period with three baskets off rebounds by Anna Quillin. Mia Stahle drained a three-point bucket in the second as Solon built a 20-13 halftime lead. Kobi Lietz sank a three-pointer in the third to help build a 34-28 advantage going into the final eight minutes.
Levin led all with 19 points, Quillin had ten, and Lietz produced nine. Miller (six points), Stahle (five), and Hilary Wilson (one point) also contributed.
The win improved Solon to 6-1 overall and led the WaMaC East at 3-1.
Solon returns to the hardwood Tuesday, Jan. 3 for a girl-boy doubleheader with Williamsburg. The JV girls and freshmen boys start at 4:30 p.m. with varsity girls and sophomore boys at 6, and the varsity boys tipping off at 7:15 p.m. Benton Community visits Friday, Jan. 6.
