WILLIAMSBURG — The Spartans tangled with the Prairie Hawks and Raiders in a wrestling double dual meet Thursday, Dec. 8 at Williamsburg and landed on the wrong side of the final scores. Prairie, Cedar Rapids, defeated Solon 64-12 while Williamsburg won 63-15.
Braydon Hoffman pinned Prairie’s Jace Tonne in 33 seconds and Williamsburg’s Gavin Vesey in 3:49 at 220 pounds. Oliver Owens (195 pounds) pinned Prairie’s Hank Hynek in 23 seconds. Owens also pinned Williamsburg’s Jeremiah Greene in 2:32 in an extra (no points) match.
Evan Burg (113) won a 7-2 decision against Williamsburg’s Tyler McMullin, and Lawsin Sinnwell (132) pinned the Raiders’ Caleb Mohr in 3:27.
In extra matches, Milo Ashbacker (138) pinned Prairie’s Zach Winborn in 4:51, Jayden Bevans (113) took a 14-5 major decision from Williamsburg’s Bowen Stratton, Kacey Craig (113) pinned the Raiders’ Nolan Kent in 3:56, and Carson Kidwell (138) won a 4-2 decision against Williamsburg’s Dominic Fisher.
The Spartans travel to Center Point-Urbana Thursday, Dec. 15 for a double dual against the Stormin’ Pointers and Independence Mustangs starting at 6:00 p.m. and travel to Fort Madison the next day for a two-day tournament starting at 5:00 p.m. Friday and 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17.
Keokuk, Midland, Muscatine, and Vinton-Shellsburg visit for a night of dual meets Thursday, Dec. 22 starting at 3:00 p.m.
