MARION — The Lady Spartans finished ninth out of 24 teams competing in Marion High School’s girls wrestling tournament Saturday, Dec. 10.
Prairie, Cedar Rapids won with 149.5 team points followed by Mount Vernon (148.0), Cedar Rapids Jefferson (131.0), West Liberty, (130.0), West Delaware (122.0), Bettendorf (119.0), Louisa-Muscatine (111.0), Alburnett (106.0), and Solon (89.0). The host Wolves were tenth (82.0) followed by Cascade (80.5), English Valley-Tri County (46.0), Highland Riverside (44.0), Wapello (43.0), Clear Creek Amana and Wilton (tied at 41.0) Center Point-Urbana (37.5), Muscatine and Tipton (tied at 34.0), and Assumption, Davenport (32.0). Belle Plaine, Mid-Prairie, Iowa City Regina, and Sigourney-Keota had no team points.
McKenna Rogers and Kate Richards were the champions of Bracket 3 and Bracket 7. Rogers pinned Wapello’s Madi Lundvall in 2:24 in the first round, pinned Prairie’s Myah Rausch in 3:17 in round two, and pinned Bettendorf’s Illesia Carter in 21 seconds in the third round.
Richards pinned Wilton’s Natalie Hartman in 2:47 in the second round and won by technical fall, 15-0, in the third round over English Valley-Tri County’s Lyla Day.
Mikayla (Mik) Langenberg and Olivia Bonnema were the runner ups in Bracket 21 and 27 respectively. Langenberg pinned Mount Vernon’s Ella Krob in 3:38 in round one but fell in 59 seconds to Bettendorf’s Erin Hill in the second round. She rebounded to pin Prairie’s Lily Gearheart in 4:56 in round three.
Bonnema fell to Wilton’s Kiley Langley in 3:23 in the first round and pinned Bettendorf’s Ayva Lopez in 2:51 in the second round and pinned Prairie’s Annalilia Vega in 32 seconds in the third round.
Abby Gregory, Eleanor Gnida, Meg Düster, and Addison Burden placed third in Bracket 8, 15, 25, and 32 respectively. Kara VeDepo, Alexis Anderson, Kendall Jensen, and Adlie Miller placed fourth in Bracket 4, 23, 37, and 42.
