INDEPENDENCE — The Lady Spartan wrestlers competed in the Independence Girls Invitational Saturday, Nov. 12 and crowned three champions: Olivia Bonnema, McKenna Rogers, and Addison Burden.
Bonnema took a 10-7 decision from Prairie’s Lydia Merchan, pinned Ankeny’s Kayla Clark in 1:21, and pinned Marion’s Jordan Wheeler in 3:17. Rogers won by fall over Mason City’s Lila Sheehan in 57 seconds, Linn-Mar’s Kendra Baynes in a blistering 25 seconds, and Prairie’s Myah Rausch in 4:37. Burden pinned Davenport’s Ivory Lesly in 39 seconds, West Delaware’s Livvy Petlon in 43 seconds, and Vinton-Shellsburg’s Dakota Cornell in 1:19.
Kate Richards, Kara VeDepo, and Kendall Jensen finished the day in second, Eleanor Gnida, Alannah Mahoney, and Abby Gregory placed third, and Alexis Anderson, Mik Langenberg, Morgan Rogers, Adlie Miller, and Lily Warnock were fourth.
35 teams competed in the tournament.
