SHUEYVILLE — The Shueyville High School Alumni Association met August 4 for their annual meeting at the Kava House in Swisher with ten in attendance. 24 members are alive, and the Shueyville High School closed in 1955.
The oldest members attending were Marcella Barta (1944) and Bernice Collingwood (1951). Joe Hadacek, the only survivor of the class of ’55, traveled the farthest, living in Minnesota. Also in attendance were Bernice Collingwood, Marcella Barta, Joe Hadacek, Donna Pavis, Elaine Novotny, Vice President Iona Vanorny, Fern Fackler, President and Secretary Kathryn Birky, Evelyn Vileta, and Treasurer Marvin Prachar.
It was decided to discontinue the group due to a lack of interest. People who attended the school in Shueyville when it was a grade school have organized a new group, Friends of Shueyville.
People included are Shueyville HS graduates, graduates’ children, those who attended Shueyville HS, and Shueyville Grade School students. If you are one of these, call Judy Schropp Bracy at 319-357-8010 or Kathryn Birky at 319-857-5305.
The first meeting is scheduled for April 13, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at a place to be announced with Bob Vanorny, Sandy Hynek, Judy Bracy, and Cindy Tampir chairing.
