CORALVILLE — Solon’s varsity girls golf team is headed to the 2022 Class 3A State Meet after a second place finish in regional competition Wednesday, May 18 at the Brown Deer Golf Club in Coralville.
Wahlert Catholic won the team championship with 371 followed by the Lady Spartans with 382. Central DeWitt (383), Clear Creek Amana (397), Xavier Catholic (405), Benton Community (413), Grinnell (414), Marion (416), Center Point-Urbana (426), Assumption Catholic (439), South Tama (486), and Maquoketa (469) rounded out the field.
Taylor Dee led Solon with 87, a personal best, and good for third place on the leaderboard. Camryn Keith was sixth with 92, also a personal best. Also scoring for Solon were Lilly Houtakker (101), Peyton Pentico (102, personal best), Rylie Greazel (105, personal best), and Izzy Messenger (107, personal best).
The State Meet will be held Thursday and Friday, May 26 and 27 at the River Valley Golf Course in Adel. For Solon this will be the first trip to State since 1998.
“I couldn’t be prouder of these girls. They committed right after our last meet last year, many of them playing golf in the summer to improve. They endured horrible conditions at practice all year and put in extra time to prepare for the regional,” said Coach Curtis Hendrickson.
