SHELLSBURG — The varsity boys golf team punched their ticket to the 2022 Class 3A State Meet by claiming the District Title Monday, May 16 at the Wildcat Golf Course in Shellsburg.
The Spartans topped runner-up Washington (Iowa) 315-347. Marion (349), West Delaware (352), and Vinton-Shellsburg (368) rounded out the field.
Isaiah Zoske and Marion’s Nathan Whalen tied for first place with 75, with Whalen winning a playoff by one stroke to earn individual medalist. Frank Haege carded 77 in the 18-hole match for third place, Jack McCarty was sixth with 81, Mac McCarty was eighth with 82, Brennan Heesch was tenth with 85, and Nathan Miller finished 14th with 88.
Solon took second place at last year’s state meet.
This year’s contest was held Monday and Tuesday, May 23 and 24, at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.
