SOLON — The varsity baseball team suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday, May 17 at home in a non-conference game against Bettendorf.
The Bulldogs bit the Spartans 12-1 with three hits from Blake Timmons, Brett White, and Michael Pipolo, who scored the only Solon run. Vince Steinbrech was charged with the loss after two innings on the mound. Steinbrech gave up four hits and five runs (two earned), walked two, and struck out three. Logan Gruchow pitched two innings giving up one hit and five runs (three earned), walking three, and striking out one. White pitched 1.1 innings giving up one earned run, walking three, and striking out three while Tyson Wheeler pitched 0.2 innings giving up one hit, one earned run, and striking out one.
The loss dipped Solon to 2-1.
Solon visits Independence Thursday, May 26 for a 5:00 p.m. doubleheader and will host Washington (Iowa) in a JV/varsity pair starting at 5:00 p.m. Benton Community visits Tuesday, May 31 for a varsity doubleheader starting at 5:00 p.m., and the Spartans travel to Xavier Catholic in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday, June 1 for a JV/Varsity pair starting at 5:00 p.m.
