Solon’s Trapshooting Club competed in the Mount Pleasant Invitational Saturday, April 16 at the SE Iowa Skeet Club in Fairfield. 412 middle school and high school shooters participated in the daylong event with the trap field set atop a hill (instead of inside a crater, as usual), which combined with cold temperatures and a persistent wind provided challenges to the competitors.
Ethan Ressler, a middle schooler, finished in fourth place (just shy of a medal) with 46 of 50 clays hit. Gabe Nicholson shot 38/50, Allen Shima hit 31/50, Caden Stull nailed 28/50, and Spencer Michels shot 22/50.
Landon Hummel led the high school squad with 45/50, Ryan Bilskie blasted 43/50, Ian Ressler shattered 42/50, Cole Birky pounded 38/50, and Sam Kunkel shot 36/50.
The team is in action again Saturday, April 23 in the Cedar Rapids Kennedy invitational at the Otter Creek Sportsman’s Club in Hiawatha. The all-day competition starts at 9:00 a.m. and will include three disciplines – singles, handicap, and doubles.
