NORTH LIBERTY — The City of North Liberty recently updated snowmobile rules and routes ahead of the winter season. The update limits snowmobile use to the designated route, generally in the city right-of-way along Ranshaw Way (Highway 965) from northern city limits to Dubuque Street, Scales Bend Road from northern city limits to Dubuque Street, Dubuque Street between Ranshaw Way and Centro Way, Centro Way, and Front Street to northeastern city limits.
Snowmobiles are prohibited from the hours of midnight to 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Snowmobile drivers are required to obey speed limits and other posted traffic signs or traffic-control devices, not ride abreast of other snowmobiles, yield the right-of-way to motor vehicles, not operate snowmobiles carelessly, recklessly, or negligently, or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances.
To operate in North Liberty, snowmobiles must be registered with the state, be equipped with head and taillights, and possess suitable and effective muffling devices.
Snowmobiles may only be operated on the designated routes and cannot be operated on private property without the expressed permission of the property owner.
The updated route map, updatable by resolution, is available to download at https://northlibertyiowa.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Ehibit-A-Snowmobile-Exhibit-2021.pdf.
