Solon’s volleyball team heads into the regional tournament on a winning note, downing South Tama 2-0 in the WaMaC conference tournament Thursday, Oct. 14, at Marion.
The Spartans won 25-15, 25-17. They were scheduled to host Fort Madison Tuesday, Oct. 19, in the first round of the Class 4A, Region 8 tournament. If they win, the Spartans will travel to Central DeWitt today (Thursday, Oct. 21) for the region semifinals.
The regional championship is scheduled for Oct. 26 at a site to be determined. The other half of the bracket includes Keokuk, Burlington and top-seeded North Scott.
Solon has battled injuries and ranked foes throughout the season, but wrapped the year on a winning note for a 14-22 record, including tournaments.
The Spartans have tested a variety of line-ups, distributing kills and blocks throughout the year. Aly Stahle led the team with five kills against South Tama. Brynn Deike notched 10 assists.
Deike and Kylee Flynn shared the setting duties throughout the year. Alexa Hupfeld had a team-high 234 digs this season. Delaney Bombei had 74 blocks and Yasmine Sell recorded 63.
Bombei was the kill leader with 191. Camryn Keith recorded 180 and Maddie Manifold had 125.
