MANCHESTER– Solon’s boys delivered.
Although senior Lucas TePoel had to settle for runner-up after dropping a playoff to medalist Noah Nabb of Maquoketa, Solon’s varsity boys captured the title at the WaMaC East Divisional Meet Monday, May 3, at Manchester’s Pin Oak Pub and Links.
The Spartans ended the day with a team score of 164, nine strokes ahead of Mount Vernon with 173. The Mustangs edged out Beckman Catholic (174), with Marion (180), Maquoketa (187) and host West Delaware (192) rounding out the six-team field.
“Again, extremely proud of the boys and the way they played,” said Solon Head Coach Adam Stahle. “It was not easy given the weather delay and the high winds, but they found a way.”
TePoel’s 39 set the pace for Solon.
“It was great to see him have success, but what was even better was watching his teammates support him during his five-hole playoff,” Stahle noted.
Four Spartans placed in the top eight, with senior Stetson McIlravy posting a 41 and junior Frank Haege Jr. and freshman Jack McCarty a stroke back, each with 42.
Freshman Brennan Heesch added a 47, and sophomore Mac McCarty finished with a 49.
