Solon Area Garage Sales sponsored by the Friends of the Library
The annual Solon Area Garage Sales are June 4-5. The Friends of the Solon Public Library are collecting registrations through May 21 at 5 p.m. Registration details can be found on the website, by clicking on “Solon Area Garage Sales” or by picking up a paper copy during a library visit.
The Friends also host the annual plant sale in conjunction with the garage sale days. As you spring clean those flower beds, donate overgrown plants to the Friends. Have plant donations potted and labeled, drop off donations at the west side of the library June 2-3.
Book and garage sale donations are also accepted during regular library staff hours. Call ahead to coordinate with staff and drop off at the lower entrance, on the west end of the building, donations of books and garage sale items for the Friends of the Library.
While preparing for a garage sale, keep the library in mind. We’re in need of an electric clothes dryer. If you have upgraded and would like to donate an old clothes dryer, call 319-624-2678.
Library access is available
Staff are available Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., via telephone, email or live chat on the website.
Single household appointments are available Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and noon. The 20-minute appointments are great for browsing materials, using a computer, sending a fax or making copies. To make an appointment, visit the website and click on “Book a Visit” or call the library, 319-624-2678.
Walk-In Browsing continues in May with browsing hours daily. Monday through Thursday from 3-7 p.m., Friday from 3-5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Walk-In Browsing is available for up to 20 patrons in the building at once and allows patrons to visit without needing an appointment. Patrons can use the 30-minute visits for browsing, computers, faxing and copies. Longer computer sessions are also available, made in advance by calling the library or on a walk-in basis.
Library Pick-Up available Monday through Saturday
Place materials on hold using the online catalog or by calling 319-624-2678 by 5 p.m. the day before pick-up. Available materials include books, audiobooks, DVDs, puzzles and cake pans.
The pick-up location is just inside the library entryway from 1:30-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 1:30-5 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Staff email or call to confirm materials are ready.
BAM POW: Make It! Clothespin Puppets
Kindergarten-fourth graders can grab this week’s BAM POW to go and make fun little clothespin puppets. Bags are available during pick-up hours, while supplies last. Each participant is urged to take just take one kit, so there are enough for everyone to participate. Kits go fast, grab one today.
Digital Storytime
Tune in to the Facebook page or YouTube channel Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. for new Digital Storytimes. In May read, sing and play games about spring time. Find all past videos on the website by clicking on the “Digital Storytime” button or on the YouTube channel. Join live or at a time working best for you.
DIY Night: May 11 at 6:30 p.m.
Think Spring with Seed Bombs. DIYers use potting soil, seeds and clay to make seed bombs to plant flowers in hard-to-reach places or in flowerbeds. Pick up a Take & Make kit and join on a Zoom call to learn a new project each month. Kits are limited, pick one up today.
2021 Teen Reading Challenge
Teens in fifth-12th grades can participate all year long. Read a book, fill out the Google form (available on the website), claim a prize, be entered to win an Amazon Fire Tablet, and complete all the challenges to earn a $10 local gift card.
Donations for Solon Community Food Pantry
Drop off donations on the table in the library hall during regular library hours and they will be delivered weekly to the pantry. Currently, most needed items are toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste.
