Solon City Council members approved a low bid of $22,604.25 from JDM Concrete of rural Solon for the construction of a section of 4-foot walkway along Highway 1 from the Terrace Lane driveway to Windflower Lane.
SOLON– The City of Solon will fill in one of the gaps in its sidewalk system.
It’s a pretty big gap.
At an April 21 meeting, Solon City Council members approved a low bid of $22,604.25 from JDM Concrete of rural Solon for a section of 4-foot walkway along Highway 1.
“This is the same sidewalk section that will complete that missing link on the east side of Highway 1 between the entrance to Terrace Lane all the way down to Windflower (Lane),” explained Public Works Director Scott Kleppe.
The Highway 1 sidewalk project was designed by City Engineer Dave Schechinger and includes 3,805 square feet of concrete.
A possible property transfer related to a proposed development along Highway 1 delayed the project, Kleppe reported.
“That kind of stalled things out,” he noted.
The sidewalk construction was put on hold for a while, he said, but the property did not transfer or get developed, allowing the city to proceed.
Three bids were obtained from area contractors, Kleppe said, with the low bid recommended for council approval.
