TAMA– Solon’s varsity girls picked up a win at a triangular golf meet Friday, April 30, at the Tama Toledo Country Club.
The Lady Spartans posted a team score of 209, edging Benton Community (212) and host South Tama (215).
“We were very pleased with the results,” noted Solon Head Coach Curtis Hendrickson. “We had several girls with personal best and the 209 was our second-lowest of the season (208 is our best this season).”
Camryn Keith led the team with a 50, good for runner-up honors. South Tama’s Ashlyn Laybon carded a 46 for medalist.
Right behind Keith were Katlyn Jeter and Taylor Dee, each shooting a 51. Lily Houtakker added a 57 for the team score. Grace Helle and Lauren Roskopf rounded out the varsity squad.
In junior varsity (JV) action, Solon defeated Benton Community, 222-229.
“Our JV team shot a good score,” Hendrickson said. “Izzy Messenger was medalist and again, we had several girls with personal best.”
Messenger, Grace Scott, Rylie Greazel, Emma Hupfeld, Madison Craig and Abby Thole competed for the Lady Spartan JV squad.
At the Pin Oak Pub and Links in Manchester Tuesday, April 27, Solon fell prey to West Delaware in a WaMaC Conference dual, 188-223.
“West Delaware is one of the top two teams in our conference,” Hendrickson observed. “We had a little trouble with Pin Oaks. It can be tricky if you don’t put the ball where you need to.”
The Hawks roared to a double-digit lead thanks to performances by Mia Peyton (40) and Ella Koloc (43).
Keith was tied for the next-best score with 52, supported by Houtakker (54), Greazel (58), Dee (59) and Messenger (60). Helle added a 67.
The Solon girls were scheduled to host the WaMaC Conference East Divisional Meet at Lake Macbride Golf Course Monday, May 3, then travel to Three Elms Golf Course Tuesday, May 4, to face host Independence and Clear Creek Amana in a conference triangular.
On Friday, May 7, the Lady Spartans will participate in the Tigerette Invitational in Tipton, with the WaMaC Conference Supermeet set for Monday, May 10, back at Manchester’s Pin Oak Pub and Links.
