WEST LIBERTY– The Solon Spartans boys varsity track and field team captured second at West Liberty’s Ron Maxson relays on Thursday, April 22, with 148.5 team points.
Although bested by Tipton with 169 points, the Spartans outdistanced Durant (120), West Branch (107.5), Clear Creek-Amana (37), West Liberty (37) and Wilton (14).
“We took a great opportunity for our athletes to go out and compete and made the most of it,” Head Coach Mark Sovers commented.
Coach Sovers was pleased with many performances by the Spartan athletes.
“We had some really good performances in the distance group from Brick Kabela, Michael Yeomans and Grant Bumsted,” he said. “Then our middle distance and relays competed really well and continue to show they want to become an important part of our team success moving forward.”
Coach Sovers recognized the second-place performance of the sprint medley team of Dawson Fordice, Quinn Felderman, Fischer Harrison and Jeremy Bachus and acknowledged the shuttle hurdle team’s second-place performance courtesy of Ben Duckett, Charlie Brandt, Brett White and Nash Kotar.
Coach Sovers also praised the championing efforts of the 4×200-meter relay team of Oaken Foster, Jeremy Bachus, Harrison and Sean Stahle, as well and the 4×400-meter relay team’s victory provided by Bachus, Rhyse Wear, Harrison and Austin Knight. The Spartans also captured third in the 4×400 with the team of Gavin Chhabra-Miller, Grant Knipper, Zach Capper and Rhett Mesch.
The Spartans’ Drake Relay-qualifying 4×100-meter relay team of Trin Eidahl, Blake Timmons, Brady Jeworrek and Colton Hoffman took to the Blue Oval running a time of 45.06 to finish 39th overall. The championing team in the 4×100 was Southeast Polk with a time of 42.39.
