SOLON- During a recess from the regular city council meeting Wednesday, Aug. 20, Mayor Steve Stange led a dedication ceremony for the new city hall.
“This evening we are here to dedicate this beautiful city hall, a dream and project that has been wanted and thought of for years,” began Stange. “For the last 10 years, the city councils, mayors and city administrators have been searching for the ideal location for city hall. We looked for visibility, a presence within the business district. We looked at several opportunities, and with the public’s opinion, we as a council and community moved forward on this location and we were able to complete Solon’s first true city hall.”
Stange thanked preceding mayors Rick Jedlicka and Cami Rasmussen for their efforts on the project. He also recognized past councils who worked toward the goal of a new city hall, and gave a nod to former City Administrator Cassandra Lippincott, who worked on the project from its inception.
Stange noted that Bev Noska donated a painting by Erma Greenwald for display in the building, and the Stange and Swann families donated a Grant Wood print in memory of Delores Swann.
A small group of long-term city residents, council members, city employees and interested parties attended the ceremony. John Etheredge of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors stayed after a joint board meeting with the council to attend.
A reception in the foyer with refreshments followed the dedication ceremony. A dedication plaque is to be placed in the building.
