Two students charged at CCA High School following K-9 sweep

TIFFIN– Two juvenile Clear Creek Amana students have been charged with bringing handguns to school after the weapons were found in vehicles during a K-9 training exercise.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, local law enforcement agencies conducted a K-9 training exercise at Clear Creek Amana High School in Tiffin Nov. 6. During the course of the training, two separate drug investigations were initiated, involving two vehicles in the parking lot and during subsequent searches deputies located a handgun in each one of the vehicles. Two Clear Creek-Amana students, ages 16 and 17, were taken into custody and transported to the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center in Cedar Rapids. Both juveniles were charged with carrying weapons on school property, a Class D felony. One of the juveniles was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor.
There is no indication of an ongoing or imminent threat to the school, students, or staff nor is there any evidence that these two cases are connected, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
